Delia Derbyshire. Oh the Very name gives me a sudden buzz of inspiration! What a legend. And what talent. I listen to her work now, & it still sounds bold & fresh today. She had the right Ideas & they are STILL NOT being followed. Music for the most part is all about how you use the spaces, the silences, to achieve layers of Dynamics. She did this without Stereo! It blows my mind!
Many of the progressive & retracting styles of her melodies are those that are of Musicians that use momentum as an advantage. But Delia achieved this is step by step by using mathematics!
Those tracks that had no melodies were created for a particular design. Weather it be an emotion, atmosphere, place or motif she would always produce the goods with gifted skill & sagacious accuracy.
It will remain a regret of mine not ever meeting her to give her thanks not ony for her undeniable contibution towards music, but also for providing the foundations to which I am creating beautiful sound today.
