Mitchell Sigman's Synthesizers.com Modular System!
Monday, February 11, 2008 at 08:27AM Here's a fab video shot by Maf in December, 2007 - Mitchell's guided tour of his wonderful Synthesizers.com Modular System! Mitch has since developed "his baby" quite a bit more, but here's the first chapter! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates! Via tarabusch on YouTube:
And I quote Mitchell:
"...Hey all... here's some info resources for the modular synth stuff I mention in the video:
www.synthesizers.com This is the manufacturer of my system.
www.doepfer.de/home_e.htm The German firm Doepfer is the "other" affordable modular synth maker. They take a different approach than the synthesizers.com systems; they use the "euro-rack" format which is far smaller and makes use of 1/8" mini jacks for connectivity.
PCB Kits:
www.cgs.synth.net - Ken Stone, aka CGS, sells a large collection of printed-circuit boards for building all kinds of different synth modules on your own. Ken's boards are very affordable, and if you join the Yahoo CGS group, Ken Stone will often answer your questions himself.
www.musicfromouterspace.com -This is another company that makes PCB's, and they've got a lot of neat modules as well. I recently built their phaser... swoop-tastic!
PARTS
www.mouser.com This is one of the 800-pound gorillas of the electronic components industry. Their catalog is like a phone book, they deliver super quick, and they'll sell you one switch or 23,000 surface-mount chips.
www.digi-key.com - Digi-Key is the other biggie in the US. If Mouser doesn't have it, Digi-Key probably does.
www.futurlec.com - Futurlec has recently been my parts supplier of choice. They aren't nearly as big or quick, but they're crazy, mad cheap. For generic stuff (resistors, transistors, IC's, etc) they're the bizness.
RESOURCES:
http://electro-music.com/forum/forum-112.html This is the URL for the DIY synth forum on the electro-music.com website. Electro-music also has a Music From Outer Space section.
http://home.debitel.net/user/jhaible/hj.html Jurgen Haible is kind of the godfather in the DIY synth world; he's built some absolutely amazing recreations of classic synths and effects, and sometimes makes runs of his circuit boards for the DIY community. You can find them at the above site.
http://www.modular.fonik.de/ Matthias Herrmann is another clever DIY chap who's built a lot of neat stuff and occasionally sells his own circuit boards.
http://yusynth.net/ For those of you courageous enough to etch your own circuit boards (google it, it's actually not too bad), Yves Usson has been kind enough to post all the artwork for his extensive DIY module collection. "
Cheers, Mitch!

mitchell's speaking voice is a lot different than his singing voice.
